Our Mykonos quick guide includes exceptional beaches, award-winning restaurants, legendary parties, megayachts, luxurious villa accommodation, and a blend of social and private state of art lifestyle. Mykonos afterall, has it all.
“The island of the winds” offers all possibilities and visitors are left satisfied yet wanting more, quite often reach to that point where they will even purchase land to become true Myconians.
Whether you are a “virgin” or a repeat visitor of Mykonos, you may know about all this already.
But, even if there are a few places on this earth where time seems not to exist, time matters; so, every time you visit Mykonos is invaluable, and how to make the best out of it, is what we looked for and include in this Mykonos quick guide.
Let’s start our guide, with her Majesty’s crown, the main town, aka Chora.

A quick guide to Chora of Mykonos.

Capturing Mykonos in all its glory, there is nowhere better to explore than Chora itself.

The architecture.
No one can miss focusing on the little neighborhoods of the island’s main town, Hora, with the captain’s homes, old churches, and wells, the architectural style of which, is a unique combination of Cycladic, Doric, and Ionic styles, blended with the artisan-ish traditional knowledge of the local builders, characterizes the practicality, the beauty, the simplicity and purity of Chora’s architectural design.
The atmosphere of Chora is truly unique. It is a small town that feels big, a captivating mix of old, new, and retro.
Many of the old stones that make up the streets of Mykonos were brought in from the nearby island of Delos throughout the millennia.
A maze of whitewashed alleyways, looking different every time of the day, is waiting for you to explore it.
Gialos, “Agios Nikolaos tis Kadenas”, the Town Hall (built in 1780), and the emblematic Mavrou School is where the famed Mykonian pelicans love to hang out.
Walk your way through Barkias, to reach the Church of Panagia Paraportiani, a complex of churches representing five different time eras, that was completed in the 17th century.

Little Venice and the Windmills

All narrow alleys of Chora will lead you to Little Venice.
Little Venice, also known as “Kato Mykonos”, is one of the most photographed spots of Chora.
Little Venice is made up of homes that were built in the 18th century and have their foundations in the sea.
It has been said that pirates would store their loot here.

Today, Little Venice is one of the most popular places to visit on the island, with its photogenic architecture, picturesque views, and relaxing atmosphere.
Walking down the cobblestone streets of Little Venice, you’ll be greeted by the smell of freshly baked bread and the sight of the vintage houses that have mostly transformed into cute cafes and restaurants.
The scent of the sea, mixed with the sweet smell of flowers, will make you want to take a seat, feel the summer breeze and enjoy the sea view from the balconies of Little Venice.
The windmills in Little Venice are a sight to behold.
They are located at the edge of Little Venice and were constructed in the 17th century. They are an attraction for visitors and Mykonos residents alike and are a testament to the island’s wind power potential.
The windmills, stand facing the sea and at night are beautifully lit up.
Powered by the north wind, these windmills used to grind the island’s grain into the flour that was used for the Myconians’ food needs until the early 20th century.

Pierro’s Bar is considered to be the first club in Mykonos that ignited nightlife (1972) and kept the fire burning for almost 5 decades.

The island is best known for its clubs, with a record-long history of 50 years in sync with the American disco culture that led to Mykonos being an attraction pole of the international crowd to her high-end nightlife and a key shaper of the modern dancing scene.
